About Zamami Village
Located about 40 km from Naha, just 50 minutes by high-speed boat, the Kerama Islands are a tropical archipelago that seems to float in the East China Sea.
Zamami Village makes up about half of the archipelago and includes three inhabited islands (Zamami, Aka, and Geruma) along with many small islets. Together, they form a kind of inland sea with vibrant coral reefs.
In 2005, the area gained international recognition when it was designated as a Ramsar Convention wetland site.

Zamami Island and Furuzamami Beach have been gaining attention, especially after being named a Ramsar Convention site and receiving two stars in the Michelin Green Guide.
More visitors from overseas are starting to discover what locals have long known — this really is “the sea the world falls in love with.” Even so, Zamami Village, with fewer than 1,000 residents, remains a quiet place, mostly known among divers in Japan. It’s an ideal spot to enjoy peaceful beaches and unspoiled islands, far from the crowds.

National Park
Not only is the landscape beautiful, with many islands scattered across the sea, but the area is also rich in nature — from colorful coral reefs to the humpback whales that come here to breed. Because of this, on March 5, 2014, it was designated as Japan’s 31st National Park — the first new one in 27 years, and the second in Okinawa after Iriomote-Ishigaki. This status helps protect the area’s natural environment and supports ongoing efforts to let visitors enjoy its beauty for years to come.
